Softball Recap: Samson Comes Up Short

If Samson was riding high fresh off their 17-9 takedown of Cottonwood last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Samson Tigers came up short against the Florala Wildcats on Thursday, falling 20-6. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-3 on March 4th.

Emma Sormrude made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole Four bases. while going 1-for-2. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kynlee Sormrude, who scored a run and stole a base.

Samson has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. Florala pushed their record up to 8-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Samson will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Geneva County at 4:00 p.m. on March 31st. Florala will also get a bit of a break before their next contest: they'll face off against Laurel Hill at 5:00 p.m. on April 1st.
