Lafayette hasn't had much luck against New Kent recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Rams will be playing at home against the Trojans at 4:30 p.m. Neither Lafayette nor New Kent posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.
On Wednesday, Lafayette came up short against Bruton and fell 5-2.
Lafayette saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Breccan O'Grady, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases. Kyle Kremer was another, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, New Kent entered their tilt with Poquoson on Wednesday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Islanders a 2-0 shutout. Give the Trojans' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.
Not much got past Robert Matthew Gentry, who gave up just two hits to keep Poquoson off the board. Gentry has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, New Kent let Lane Boyette and Brody Cash run wild. Boyette went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI, while Cash went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Those two doubles gave Boyette a new career-high.
New Kent kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive contests.
New Kent pushed their record up to 9-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Lafayette, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.
