William Campbell hasn't had much luck against Gretna recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Generals will challenge the Hawks at 5:30 p.m. William Campbell will be strutting in after a win while Gretna will be coming in after a loss.
William Campbell not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since May 23, 2024 (when they won 21-0). They were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over Prince Edward County. The Generals haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Peighton Francis made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Francis was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two RBI.
In other batting news, Arnesia Dews was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. She also brought in an RBI, marking her first of the season. Isabel Puckette was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
William Campbell always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .840. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Gretna's offense. They lost 11-0 to Jefferson Forest on Monday. The Hawks just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.
William Campbell picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 2-6. As for Gretna, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.
William Campbell's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's game. The Generals have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Gretna, though, as they've been averaging only 0.4 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will William Campbell continue to outrun the ball?
William Campbell couldn't quite finish off Gretna in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 4-2. Can the Generals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
