Softball Recap: John Jay Comes Up Short

John Jay had lost three straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 3-7 to make it four. They fell just short of the Mamaroneck Tigers by a score of 4-3. The Patriots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

As for Mamaroneck, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games.

For Mamaroneck's part, Ariana Brito made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Brito was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Olivia Lourenco was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.

Coming up, John Jay will square off against White Plains at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their 12th straight victory, something the Patriots surely won't give up without a fight. As for Mamaroneck, they will take on Yorktown at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday.
