Baseball Recap: Mena Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Mena took a seven-run defeat the last time they faced off against Booneville, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Mena skirted past Booneville 9-8. The victory was familiar territory for Mena, who have now won three matchups in a row.

Luke Rowland made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Rowland was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Rowland wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cole Schauble, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave Schauble a new career-high. Another was Van Goforth, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI.

Mena was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .471. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Mena's win bumped their record up to 5-9. As for Booneville, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-8.

Looking ahead, Mena will host Pottsville at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bearcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Apaches have averaged an impressive 10.7 runs per game this season. As for Booneville, they will head out on the road to square off against Paris at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
