Baseball Recap: Traverse City West Comes Up Short

Traverse City West extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 15-6 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Stoney Creek Cougars. That's two games in a row now that the Titans have lost by just one run.

As for Stoney Creek, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-19. That's two games straight that they have won by just one run.

For Stoney Creek's part, Drew Hicks tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. The dominant performance also gave Hicks a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

On the hitting side, Stoney Creek's victory was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Brady Smith, who went 1-for-3 with two runs. That's the most runs Smith has posted over his last 12 games. Another was Collin Lott, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Coming up, Traverse City West will face off against Benzie Central at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Titans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Huskies have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. Stoney Creek does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
