Football Recap: Madison Dragons vs. Winside Wildcats
Madison lost against Winside back in September of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Dragons took a 48-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wildcats. That's two games in a row now that the Dragons have lost by exactly 12 points.
Despite the loss, Madison still got an impressive performance from Bodonn Sweeney, who threw for 189 yards and four TDs, and also rushed for 64 yards and one score. Gabriel Campos was another key player, picking up 118 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Winside's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aden Sellin, who rushed for 123 yards and a pair of scores on only 11 carries. Those 123 rushing yards gave Sellin a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jayden Aschoff, who threw for 203 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 81.8% of his passes.
This is the second loss in a row for Madison and nudges their season record down to 0-2. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 33.0 points this season. As for Winside, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Looking ahead, Madison will be playing at home against Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard] at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Winside, they will head out on the road to challenge Newman Grove/St. Edward at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
