Basketball Recap: Mckeel Academy Piles Up the Points Against Lake Gibson

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely McKeel Academy's strategy against Lake Gibson on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the McKeel Academy Wildcats blew the Lake Gibson Braves out of the water with a 64-31 final score. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 26 points or more this season.

Ava Anderson was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 42 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it 14 consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of McKeel Academy's points. Another player making a difference was Emilee Hamilton, who posted four points in addition to seven boards and four steals.

McKeel Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Despite the loss, Lake Gibson still got an impressive performance from Jakhia Willis, who had 17 points. Willis is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for four straight games.

The victory was the fourth in a row for McKeel Academy, bringing their record for this year to 10-10. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 26.5 points. As for Lake Gibson, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season.

McKeel Academy has already played their next contest (against Plant City), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Lake Gibson will take on Lakeland on Thursday. Lake Gibson is facing Lakeland at the right time seeing as Lakeland is stuck on a 21-game losing streak.
