Basketball Recap: Ruston's Victory on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Ruston waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They enjoyed a cozy 66-48 victory over the Gibsland-Coleman Bulldogs. Given the Bearcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 27th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 122nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Ruston found their leader in sophomore Ahmad Hudson, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 14 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Keshun Malcolm, who posted 13 points.

Ruston was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Ruston pushed their record up to 12-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.3 points per game. As for Gibsland-Coleman, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 18-15 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Ruston Bearcats challenge the Ouachita Parish Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Ouachita Parish knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Ruston likes a good challenge. As for Gibsland-Coleman, they will welcome Claiborne Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Claiborne Christian has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 212 points over their last three contests.
