Softball Recap: Horizon Now 6-1 over Last Seven Games

Horizon barely beat Wesley Chapel the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Horizon blew past Wesley Chapel 8-1 on Thursday. Considering the Hawks have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Addison Lamb spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Horizon's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Morgyn Welch, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave Welch a new career-high. Lila Hernandez was another, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Horizon is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average over those games. This is the second loss in a row for Wesley Chapel and nudges their season record down to 6-6.

Coming up, Horizon will challenge Cherry Hill West at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Wesley Chapel, they will head out to square off against Sunlake at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wesley Chapel's pitchers better be ready for this one: Sunlake has averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season.
