Football Recap: Covington Starts Season with Win Against Tri-County

Covington gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 51-0 victory over the Tri-County Cavaliers. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Cavaliers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Covington got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Beau Bishop out in front who rushed for 128 yards and three touchdowns. Those 128 rushing yards gave Bishop a new career-high. Another rusher making a difference was AJ Asbury, who rushed for 109 yards and one TD on only five carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Covington was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 318 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 188 rushing yards in eight consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Covington didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Kyven Hill and Kingston Waddell.

Coming up, Covington will be playing in front of their home fans against South Newton at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Tri-County, they are taking a road trip to challenge Attica at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
