Softball Recap: Shoemaker Victorious

Shoemaker gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 12-8 win over the Bryan Vikings. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 11-8 back in March.

Kale Clawson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and six unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Aveolela Ropati, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Yanimarie Nieves, who scored two runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.

Shoemaker was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in four consecutive games.

Shoemaker's record is now 18-9-1. As for Bryan, they dropped their record down to 3-14 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight at home.

Looking ahead, Shoemaker is taking a road trip to square off against Copperas Cove at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wolves' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldawgs have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season. As for Bryan, they will host Temple at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
