Baseball Recap: Homer Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Maple Valley, Homer was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Napoleon Pirates by a score of 7-2.

Zak Smith was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits. He is becoming a predictor of Homer's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 1-3 when he doesn't). Smith was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

In other batting news, Brock Butler was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That home run was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Xander Dubois, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

Homer was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Homer now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Napoleon, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Coming up, Homer will head out on the road to face off against Quincy at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Napoleon, they will square off against Clinton at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
