Preview: Smithfield Sentinels vs. Mount St. Charles Academy Mounties
The Smithfield Sentinels will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against the Mount St. Charles Academy Mounties at 7:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Rhode Island (Smithfield is ranked 25th, while Mount St. Charles Academy is ranked 14th).
Last Thursday, Smithfield was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 45-44 to Cumberland. Smithfield has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Krista Kasbarian, who scored 13 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashley Gagner, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, Mount St. Charles Academy stacked a fourth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Monday. Everything went their way against Coventry as Mount St. Charles Academy made off with a 65-42 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Mount St. Charles Academy has posted since December 21, 2023.
Emma Roberts and Addie Stojanowski were among the main playmakers for Mount St. Charles Academy as the former scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and the latter scored 18 points along with six rebounds and three blocks. That's the first time this season that Stojanowski scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Addie Johnson, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
Smithfield's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Mount St. Charles Academy, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-3.
