Basketball Recap: O'Neill Comes Up Short

O'Neill was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 66-52 bruising from the Cedar Catholic Trojans. The Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Trojans earlier this season, when they won 58-47.

Despite the defeat, O'Neill saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Braxen Eichelberger went 7 of 12 en route to 21 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave Eichelberger a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Turner Heiss, who posted 12 points.

O'Neill now has a losing record at 8-9. As for Cedar Catholic, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the O'Neill Eagles duke it out with the Guardian Angels Central Catholic Bluejays at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Cedar Catholic, they will take on Wayne in a tournament on Friday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive.
