Basketball Recap: Roxboro Community Takes Down Cape Hatteras in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, Roxboro Community rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They strolled past the Cape Hatteras Hurricanes with points to spare, taking the game 58-43. The Bulldogs' victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.

Roxboro Community got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Karrie Obie out in front who dropped a double-double with 21 points and 15 boards. That's the most points Obie has posted since back in November of 2024. Katherine-Kaey 'Katie' Mann was another key player, putting up 15 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals.

Roxboro Community smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in six consecutive games.

Cape Hatteras' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Taylor Hickman, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 11 boards, and Paizley Schultz, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabby Baker, who earned five points and five boards.

Roxboro Community pushed their record up to 20-0 with the victory, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.9 points over those games. As for Cape Hatteras, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-9.

Looking ahead, Roxboro Community will face off against Pamlico County at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Roxboro Community's defense has only allowed 25.8 points per game this season, so Pamlico County's offense will have their work cut out for them. Cape Hatteras does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
