Soccer Game Preview: Monterey vs. Caprock

The Monterey Plainsmen will head out on the road to challenge the Caprock Longhorns at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Monterey is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 3.4 goals per game this season.

Monterey is headed into the match without a loss and will look to keep things rolling. Their defense stepped up to hand Plainview an 8-0 shutout on Friday. Giovanni Cardenas was a massive factor in the win as he booted in three goals all by himself.

Meanwhile, Caprock entered their tilt with Tascosa on Friday with six consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with seven. They came within a single goal of losing the streak, but they secured a 1-0 W against the Rebels. Given the Longhorns' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 79th, while the Rebels are ranked 212th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Caprock pushed their record up to 12-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those three games. As for Monterey, their win bumped their record up to 12-0.

Monterey was able to grind out a solid victory over Caprock when the teams last played back in January, winning 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Monterey since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
