Volleyball Recap: Clark Takes a Loss

Clark lost against Sunrise Mountain back in May of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Chargers took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Miners. The Chargers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Clark started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-27, 25-17, 25-17, 25-12.

When it comes to explaining why Clark lost, don't look at Theodore Birdsong. Despite the final result, he had 27 assists and four blocks. Birdsong has been hot recently, having posted 12 or more assists the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Michael Chung, who had ten kills.

Sunrise Mountain's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Christian Nevarez, who had 18 digs and three assists. That's the most digs Nevarez has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Angel Torres, who had 16 assists and six digs.

Clark's defeat dropped their record down to 2-16. As for Sunrise Mountain, their victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-11.

Looking ahead, Clark will host Las Vegas at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Sunrise Mountain, they will venture away from home to take on Bonanza at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
