Recap: Corning Cardinals vs. Las Plumas Thunderbirds
The Corning Cardinals struggled with threes on Saturday (the Las Plumas Thunderbirds had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Corning took a 54-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of Las Plumas. Corning has struggled against Las Plumas recently, as their game on Saturday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Corning lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jordon Morrow, who scored 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaidan Raker, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds.
Las Plumas' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Martin Soria led the charge by going 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 24 points and 4 assists. The contest was Soria's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Casmir Jones was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with eight rebounds and five assists.
Corning now has a losing record at 8-9. As for Las Plumas, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-7.
Corning and Gridley will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. One thing working in Gridley's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six contests.
