Soccer Game Preview: Central vs. Brawley

The Central Spartans will face off against the Brawley Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Central is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 3.6 goals per game this season.

Central's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Holtville with a sharp 3-0 win. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 70th, while the Vikings are ranked 887th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Central hit Holtville with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Joseph Rosas, Angel Sandoval, and Mishel Villanueva.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Tuesday Brawley sidestepped Southwest EC for a 3-2 victory. That's two games straight that the Wildcats have won by just one goal.

Brawley is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 25 goals over those nine contests. As for Central, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 18-2-3.

Central skirted past Brawley 3-2 in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Will Central repeat their success, or does Brawley have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
