Basketball Recap: Avant Garde Academy Piles Up the Points Against First Baptist Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Avant Garde Academy). They breezed by the First Baptist Academy Lions to the tune of 67-25 on Friday. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded the Sharks with their most commanding win of the season.

Avant Garde Academy was led to victory by Landon Guzman and Xavier Jackson. Guzman went 9 for 13 on his way to 24 points and six assists, while Jackson went 7 of 15 on his way to 19 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Nikko Andino, who posted six points and ten rebounds.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Avant Garde Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Avant Garde Academy now has a winning record of 4-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Avant Garde Academy will take on Scheck Hillel Community School in a holiday battle at at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for First Baptist Academy, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Donna Klein Jewish Academy on January 16, 2025.
