Basketball Game Preview: Newark Central Blue Devils vs. Newark Tech Terries

The Newark Central Blue Devils will head out on the road to face off against the Newark Tech Terries at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Newark Central has struggled recently with six defeats in a row, while Newark Tech will arrive with four straight wins.

Newark Central is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against Newark Collegiate Academy on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Newark Central lost 74-52 to Newark Collegiate Academy.

Newark Central might have lost, but man, Yam'Bya Ndaw was a machine: he almost dropped a triple-double on nine points, 12 boards, and 11 blocks. Ndaw is crushing it when it comes to blocks: he's posted at least four every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Drean Aikins, who went 7 of 13 on his way to 17 points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Newark Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Newark Tech). They blew past Science Park, posting a 77-31 victory. The Terries have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three games by 25 points or more this season.

Newark Central's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Newark Tech, their win bumped their record up to 7-1.

Newark Central suffered a grim 87-66 defeat to Newark Tech in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Newark Central avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
