Softball Recap: Lipscomb Academy Takes a Loss

Lipscomb Academy dropped their record down to 17-7 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the St. Benedict at Auburndale Eagles, falling 11-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Mustangs have suffered since April 12, 2024.

As for St. Benedict at Auburndale, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 29-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games.

For St. Benedict at Auburndale's part, Madison Young made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over six innings pitched. Young has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 20 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double.

In other batting news, Zoie Bernard was incredible, firing off three triples, three runs, and one stolen base while going 3-for-4. Those three triples gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sadie Quinteros, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Lipscomb Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for St. Benedict at Auburndale, they will face off against Baylor at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
