Basketball Recap: Clover Blue Eagles vs. Blythewood Bengals

The Clover Blue Eagles were the 54-41 winner over the Blythewood Bengals when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Clover fell 73-62 to the Bengals on Friday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (59), Clover still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Clover lost, one person who can't be blamed is Karis Alexander. Despite the final result, she scored 19 points along with four steals and two blocks. Alexander continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Clara Powell, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.

Chase Thomas was her usual excellent self, shooting 6-for-9 from beyond the arc and dropping a double-double on 28 points and 13 rebounds for Blythewood. Thomas also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was India Williams, who scored 14 points along with five assists and five rebounds.

Clover has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-9 record this season. As for Blythewood, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clover will square off against the Yellow Jackets at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in South Carolina (Fort Mill is ranked 44th, while the Blue Eagles are ranked 53rd). As for Blythewood, they will head out on the road to take on the Bearcats at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Rock Hill will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive.
