Baseball Recap: Benton Harbor Comes Up Short

Benton Harbor extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 2-10-1. They lost 18-2 to the Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Lakers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lakers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-0 on Friday.

As for Our Lady of the Lake Catholic, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-10. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Our Lady of the Lake Catholic's part, Eli Mcloughlin made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave Mcloughlin a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Our Lady of the Lake Catholic is undefeated when Mcloughlin posts two or more runs, but 1-10 otherwise.

In other batting news, Bradyn Harper was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five stolen bases, three runs, and three doubles. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Donovan Hooten was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Benton Harbor will welcome Eau Claire at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Our Lady of the Lake Catholic, they will take on New Buffalo at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
