Baseball Recap: John Marshall Snaps Four-Game Streak of Losses at Home

John Marshall had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Richmond High School for the Arts on Monday. The Justices blew past the Bulldogs 12-1. The Justices not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 9th (when they won 15-3).

Jackson Cobb made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. John Marshall is undefeated when Cobb allows one or fewer earned runs, but 3-10 otherwise. Cobb was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with four stolen bases and two runs. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

In other batting news, Kai'shawn Thomas was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. He is becoming a predictor of John Marshall's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 4-9 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Dwayne Ferrer, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

John Marshall always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They are 5-2 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

John Marshall's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-10. As for Richmond High School for the Arts, their defeat was their 25th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-12.

John Marshall will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bulldogs: the pair will be back at it again later today.
