Baseball Recap: Spanish River Starts Season with Win Against Westminster Christian

Spanish River gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Westminster Christian Warriors a 6-0 shutout.

Not much got past Dylan Werblow, who gave up just a hit to keep Westminster Christian off the board. The dominant performance also gave Werblow a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

On the hitting side, Spanish River saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andrew DeRosa, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, DeRosa also racked up two hits, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Jason Rothberg was another, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one RBI.

Westminster Christian now has a losing record at 1-2.

Coming up, Spanish River will welcome Somerset Academy - Canyons at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Westminster Christian, they will venture away from home to face off against Doral Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
