Softball Game Preview: Gibbs Gladiators vs. Boca Ciega Pirates

Gibbs hasn't had much luck against Boca Ciega recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Gibbs Gladiators will venture away from home to challenge the Boca Ciega Pirates at 4:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Gibbs is headed into Wednesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game dating back to last season on Tuesday. They lost 36-16 to Bayshore. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game two weeks ago (ten), the Gladiators still had to take the loss.

Shania Fisher-Sutton was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring three runs while going 2-for-5. Kayley Hecimovich was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Boca Ciega, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They never let Anclote get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory on Tuesday. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by 15 runs or more this season.

Giavanni D'Amico was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Lexi Bordeaux, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Boca Ciega was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .609. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

Gibbs' loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Boca Ciega, their win bumped their record up to 5-2.

Gibbs suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Boca Ciega in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Can Gibbs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
