Softball Recap: Homewood Victorious

Homewood posted their closest win since February 21st on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Mountain Brook Spartans. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 5-4 victory back in February.

Grace Pilgrim spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Mia Gonzalez, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

The win made it two in a row for Homewood and bumps their season record up to 11-5-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Mountain Brook, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season.

Homewood will have a chance to go back-to-back against Mountain Brook: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
