Baseball Recap: West Haven Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for West Haven, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over the Norwich Free Academy Wildcats on Tuesday. That's more bragging rights for the Blue Devils, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Connor Hume spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because West Haven is undefeated when he allows at most two walks, but 9-10 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jose Padilla, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. West Haven is undefeated when Padilla posts two or more runs, but 8-10 otherwise.

West Haven hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive matchups.

West Haven pushed their record up to 13-10 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. As for Norwich Free Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-8 record this season.
