Fleming Island and Ponte Vedra are an even 4-4 against one another since February of 2018, but likely not for long. The Golden Eagles will take on the Sharks at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Fleming Island's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Ponte Vedra's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Fleming Island is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering University Christian just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the Christians by a score of 4-3.

Olivia Sikes made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Bailee Wadley was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Ponte Vedra came up short against Clay on Friday and fell 11-6.

Ponte Vedra saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abby Shin, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Ponte Vedra has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-5 record this season. As for Fleming Island, their loss dropped their record down to 9-5.

Ponte Vedra's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Fleming Island has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Ponte Vedra, though, as they've been averaging 8.8 hits. Given Fleming Island's sizable advantage in that area, the Sharks will need to find a way to close that gap.

Fleming Island was able to grind out a solid victory over Ponte Vedra when the teams last played back in February of 2024, winning 5-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
