Basketball Recap: Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate Comes Up Short

Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 41-37 heartbreaker at the hands of the Patel Trailblazers. The Phoenix were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Trailblazers earlier this season, when they won 55-28.

Despite the defeat, Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate saw an underclassman step up: freshman Jasani Andrews dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten boards. That was a full 70.3% of Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Shanara Wilson was another key player, putting up six points.

Even though they lost, Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Patel only pulled down one offensive board.

Ella Krapohl was the offensive standout of the game as she went 5 for 11 en route to 11 points and four steals. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in blocks (two). Another player making a difference was Emerald White, who had nine points.

Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate's loss dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Patel, the victory snapped their losing streak at nine games and leaves them with a 2-15 record.

Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 50-9 defeat against Sports Leadership & Management on the 24th. Patel has also already played their next match, a 68-16 loss against Calvary Christian on the 24th.
