Softball Recap: Rincon/University Drops Season-High Score on South Mountain

Rincon/University had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt South Mountain on Monday. Everything went the Rincon/University Rangers' way against the South Mountain Jaguars as the Rincon/University Rangers made off with a 14-1 victory. The Rangers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Marciella Castillo made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Castillo was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. That stolen base was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Sophia Castillo was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Bella Gyuro, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Rincon/University's record now sits at 3-5. As for South Mountain, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rincon/University will host Desert View at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Desert View has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.14 runs per game on average), something Rincon/University will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for South Mountain, they will take on Desert Sunrise at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. South Mountain is facing Desert Sunrise at the right time seeing as Desert Sunrise is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
