Basketball Recap: Plainfield South Piles Up the Points Against Romeoville

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Plainfield South). They took their contest on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 64-36 win over the Romeoville Spartans. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Cougars have posted since February 6th.

Leading Plainfield South to victory were Layla Lesure and La'Niya Willis. Lesure dropped a double-double on 21 points and 17 rebounds, while Willis dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 assists. Those 21 points gave Lesure a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Fathia Olagunju, who went 5 of 7 on her way to 10 points and seven rebounds.

Plainfield South smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in seven consecutive matches dating back to last season.

When it comes to explaining why Romeoville lost, don't look at Kazaria Smith. Despite the final result, she posted 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylee Harris, who had nine points.

Plainfield South's win bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Romeoville, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Plainfield South didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 54-50 victory against Joliet West on the 6th. As for Romeoville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 60-58 win against Plainfield Central on the 5th.
