Baseball Preview: Myers Park Mustangs vs. Laney Buccaneers
The Myers Park Mustangs will venture away from home to challenge the Laney Buccaneers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Myers Park proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by nine) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out West Forsyth 5-3.
ADDISON ROWLAND was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs. JACK BUTLER was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Laney narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past South Brunswick 3-2. The win continues a trend for the Buccaneers in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won four in a row.
Dom Civelli was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Civelli was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Civelli wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Owen Gore, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.
