Baseball Recap: Elwood Takes a Loss

Elwood extended their losing streak to 11 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 2-16 in the process. They fell 14-9 to the Marion Giants. If the Panthers were looking for revenge after losing 11-8 to the Giants when the teams met back in May of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Bracken Jetty made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Jace Reese, who went 3-for-5 with two RBI and one run.

Marion's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-14. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Marion's side, Taeshawn Inman was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Izaiah Freshwater was another key player, getting on base in two of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Elwood and Marion could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. Elwood (ranked 351st) will meet Eastbrook (ranked 146th) at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Marion will challenge Oak Hill at 5:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (354 vs. 128).
