Softball Game Preview: Goleman Gators vs. Mater Lakes Academy Bears

The Goleman Gators will take on the Mater Lakes Academy Bears at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Goleman is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.

Goleman made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Hialeah-Miami Lakes, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Gators put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 15-5 win on Thursday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Gators needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

Sophia Colina made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Colina was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing six bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Amanda Monteagudo was a standout: she scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Olivia Mata was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4.

Goleman was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .520. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 16 runs the game before, Mater Lakes Academy was a bit more limited in their contest on Tuesday. They fell 4-1 to Miami Country Day.

Mater Lakes Academy has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-3 record this season. As for Goleman, their victory bumped their record up to 5-11.

Goleman suffered a grim 16-6 defeat to Mater Lakes Academy when the teams last played last Wednesday. Can the Gators avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
