Recap: Morrill Lions vs. Lingle-Fort Laramie Doggers
The Morrill Lions struggled with assists on Tuesday (the Lingle-Fort Laramie Doggers had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Morrill fell 58-47 to Lingle-Fort Laramie. While losing is never fun, Morrill can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 136th in Nebraska, while Lingle-Fort Laramie is ranked eighth in Wyoming).
Several Lions players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Pittman Ashwin, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Ashwin has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Wyler Fisher, who scored 15 points.
Lingle-Fort Laramie found their leader in underclassman Brady Cook, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. Cook hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for ten straight games. Anthony Arnusch was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with two steals.
Morrill's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-7. As for Lingle-Fort Laramie, the win (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 12-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Morrill will take on Gordon-Rushville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gordon-Rushville comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Lingle-Fort Laramie, they will be playing at home against Burns at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Burns has now lost 14 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 7.
