Recap: Norfolk Panthers vs. Bellevue East Chieftains
The Norfolk Panthers couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They received a tough blow on Thursday as they fell 54-35 to Bellevue East. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Norfolk in their matchups with Bellevue East: they've now lost four in a row.
Several Panthers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tasha Eisenhauer, who scored 12 points. Russell Aubrey was another key contributor, scoring 8 points.
Bellevue East's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from TNiyah Wilson-Smith, who scored 16 points along with 6 steals and 3 blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamyla Gilmore, who scored 5 points along with 5 blocks.
Norfolk's loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Bellevue East, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
Norfolk will head out on the road to face off against Lincoln North Star on Thursday. As for Bellevue East, they will be playing at home against Gretna at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday.
