Softball Recap: Zariah Galvan Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Tornillo

Alpine had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 17-run drubbing they dealt Tornillo on Tuesday. Alpine's pitchers stepped up to hand Tornillo a 17-0 shutout. The victory continues a trend for the Bucks in their matchups with the Coyotes: they've now won seven in a row.

Kody Hawkins made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Zariah Galvan was a standout: she scored two runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Kacy Hawkins, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Alpine always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .720. They are 3-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Alpine's record is now 9-14. As for Tornillo, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.

Coincidentally, Alpine and Tornillo will both be playing Kermit the next time they take the field. Alpine will head out to face Kermit at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, while Tornillo will head out to face them at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
