Recap: John Paul II Centurions vs. John Paul II Guardians

After flying high against the Texas School for the Deaf Rangers last Thursday, the John Paul II Centurions came back down to earth. The Centurions were outmatched by the Guardians on the road and fell 66-38. The Centurions were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-17.

Despite the loss, the Centurions still got an impressive performance from Joseph Mata, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 18 rebounds. Mata hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for 12 straight games. Another player making a difference was Teddy Chavez, who scored four points along with five steals.

The Centurions have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-19 record this season. As for the Guardians, their victory bumped their record up to 10-13.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. John Paul II won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Hill Country Christian School of Austin at 6:00 p.m. on January 24th. Hill Country Christian School of Austin will be looking to extend their current 13-game winning streak. As for John Paul II, they will play host again and welcome Holy Cross, where tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Holy Cross knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully John Paul II likes a good challenge.
