Basketball Recap: Taylor Hays Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Steamboat Springs

Basalt hadn't done well against Steamboat Springs recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Basalt Longhorns walked away with a 63-51 victory over the Steamboat Springs Sailors. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Longhorns as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Basalt's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Taylor Hays led the charge by putting up 21 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. Hays is becoming a predictor of Basalt's success: when he posts at least three steals the team is 3-1 (and 7-12 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Elias Schendler, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 13 boards.

Basalt smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. They are 8-4 when they hit their own glass that hard.

Basalt's victory bumped their record up to 10-13. As for Steamboat Springs, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-15.
