Baseball Game Preview: Rutherford Rams vs. Mosley Dolphins

Rutherford hasn't had much luck against Mosley recently, but that could start to change on Friday. Rutherford will take on Mosley at 6:00 p.m. Rutherford is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.

On Thursday, Rutherford earned a 4-1 win over North Bay Haven Academy.

Devin Langley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Rutherford saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caylen Nguyen, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Mosley had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Chiefs 4-2.

Mosley also got a great performance from Chase Wood as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over 4.1 innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave Wood a new career-high.

Mosley hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in three consecutive matches.

Mosley's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.2 runs over those games. As for Rutherford, their record now sits at 7-8.

Rutherford suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Mosley when the teams last played back in April of 2021. Can Rutherford avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
