Softball Game Preview: Pope John XXIII vs. Sparta Spartans

Pope John XXIII will venture away from home to challenge the Sparta Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pope John XXIII will be strutting in after a victory while Sparta will be coming in after a loss.

Pope John XXIII barely beat Gill St. Bernard's the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Pope John XXIII put the hurt on Gill St. Bernard's with a sharp 9-2 win on Monday. Pope John XXIII might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by six runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, Sparta was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of Randolph.

Pope John XXIII's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Sparta, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.

Everything went Pope John XXIII's way against Sparta in their previous meeting back in March, as Pope John XXIII made off with a 15-7 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pope John XXIII since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
