Basketball Recap: Danville Comes Up Short

If Danville was riding high fresh off their 63-27 takedown of North Montgomery last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Danville Warriors fell 69-62 to the McCutcheon Mavericks on Tuesday. The Warriors were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mavericks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Defeat or not, Danville got some senior leadership from Addison Davis and Emma Ancelet. Davis went 9 of 14 en route to 26 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals, while Ancelet went 7 for 10 on her way to 20 points along with eight assists and six boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Davis has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Maddy Wethington, who went 5 for 12 en route to 15 points.

McCutcheon found their leader in sophomore Lillie Graves, who went 17 of 31 on her way to 43 points and five rebounds. Those 43 points set a new season-high mark for Graves. Keara Lipscomb-Allen was another key player, going 7 for 13 en route to 18 points and three steals.

Danville's loss dropped their record down to 16-5. As for McCutcheon, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 19-3.

Danville and McCutcheon should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. Danville (ranked 67th) will meet Western Boone (ranked 306th) at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Danville is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.6 points per game this season. Meanwhile, McCutcheon will take on Western at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday up 268 places (10 vs. 278).
