Preview: Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs vs. Washington Blue Lions

The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Washington Blue Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Lynchburg-Clay will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 549th, while Washington is ranked 177th).

Lynchburg-Clay scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 79-55 margin over West Union. With Lynchburg-Clay ahead 55-30 at the half, the match was all but over already.

Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Washington's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a hard 65-50 fall against Miami Trace.

Despite their loss, Washington saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Garrett Rickman, who scored 19 points, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Haithcock, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.

Lynchburg-Clay's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-4. As for Washington, their defeat ended a 13-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 5-1.

Lynchburg-Clay lost to Washington on the road by a decisive 73-58 margin when the teams last played back in January. Can Lynchburg-Clay avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
