Football Game Preview: Mt. St. Michael Academy Mountaineers vs. Holy Cross Knights

The Mt. St. Michael Academy Mountaineers will take on the Holy Cross Knights at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Mt. St. Michael Academy's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They blew past Nazareth 35-0. Considering the Mountaineers have won three games by more than 21 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Mt. St. Michael Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Victor Declet led the charge by rushing for 157 yards and two TDs on only seven carries. Those 157 rushing yards gave Declet a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew Diaz, who picked up 63 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Mt. St. Michael Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 225 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Mt. St. Michael Academy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Andrew Watson and Owen Collins.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Holy Cross). They simply couldn't be stopped last Saturday as they easily beat Nazareth 44-0. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Knights considering their six-point performance the matchup before.

The win got Mt. St. Michael Academy back to even at 4-4. As for Holy Cross, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
