Preview: Shaw Warriors vs. South Delta Bulldogs
Shaw is 3-0 against South Delta since October of 2021, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Shaw Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the South Delta Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Shaw is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
Two weeks ago, Shaw had to suffer through a rough 60-8 loss at the hands of Simmons. While losing is never fun, Shaw can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked 255th, while Simmons is ranked 88th).
Meanwhile, South Delta never let their opponents score on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat West Bolivar 38-0 on the road. The result was nothing new for South Delta, who have now won three matchups by 26 points or more so far this season.
LaBroderick Williams looked great while leading his team to the win, rushing for 86 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries, while also catching a touchdown. Dekevion Miller and his 80 yards on the ground were also a key factor in South Delta's win.
Shaw's loss was their fifth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 13-2 Shaw and 13-2 Shaw (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 87.6% over those games). As for South Delta, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-5.
Everything went Shaw's way against South Delta when the teams last played back in November of 2022 as Shaw made off with a 34-8 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Shaw since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
