Baseball Game Preview: Sarasota Sailors vs. Port Charlotte Pirates

The Sarasota Sailors will head out on the road to take on the Port Charlotte Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sarasota's pitching crew has only allowed two runs per game this season, so Port Charlotte's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Port Charlotte will be up against a hot Sarasota team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Sailors came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against Lakewood Ranch. That's two games straight that the Sailors have won by just one run.

Jack Mohrmann looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Patrick Drymon, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Johnny Lackaff, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Port Charlotte's offense. They lost 15-0 to Bishop Verot on Tuesday. Considering the last time the Pirates couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.

Sarasota pushed their record up to 19-4-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.6 runs across that stretch. As for Port Charlotte, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 13 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-14 record this season.

Sarasota was able to grind out a solid victory over Port Charlotte in their previous matchup back in February, winning 4-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Sailors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
