Baseball Game Preview: Alburnett Pirates vs. Calamus-Wheatland Warriors

The Alburnett Pirates will face off against the Calamus-Wheatland Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Alburnett's pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so Calamus-Wheatland's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Alburnett's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Tuesday's struggle, when North Linn hitters got past them. The Pirates took a 10-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lynx on Tuesday. The Pirates have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Calamus-Wheatland had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over Lisbon on Monday. The game was the first time the Warriors have beaten the Lions on their field since June 18, 2020.

Alburnett's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Calamus-Wheatland, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 2-9.

Alburnett came up short against Calamus-Wheatland in their previous matchup back in May of 2019, falling 3-0. Can the Pirates avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
